THE
2001 SEASON IS UNDER WAY!!!
THE
2001 RACE SEASON BEGAN HERE IN SO. CAL. ON FEB. 4, 2001
With heavy winter storms looming over most of the country, the weather here in Southern California was more like summer. Temperatures in the upper 80's made for a beautiful day and forced racers to tune their cars like it was July. This accounts for the slow times and many un-timed runs. The good weather brought out many racers and new cars. Harold McCoy ran his newly bodied side-winder 5cc world class car. His new design is inspired by the modern lakes streamliners. Harold has been working on this car for awhile and is trying some new theories in aerodynamics and air flow. Rich Democh starts the new year of with a new car as well. He is the proud owner of a Denneler 10cc world class car. It looks like Rich is going to add some new competition to the "Fast Guy" class this year. John Bridges is getting ready for the world meet early. He brought out three 1.5cc cars and was able to get one of them to go 138 m.p.h.. Not a record, but just getting one of these little screamers to run is a chore in and of it's self. Big turn out in the A.M.R.C.A. classes: 3 cars in class 4 Including new comer Steve Morse and his Rossi powered McCoy Railton. Modern nostalgia is a new class this year that has two categories: cars with engines up to .40 C.I. and .41 - .60 C.I. The driving forces of this class - Stuart & Charles Hammill, and Marshal Zeigert - made a good showing in both classes Dave Pearson has volunteered to serve as the timer operator this year. He will be performing a vital roll in our club and has been a quick study. Thanks Dave.
