SUMMER
HITS SO. CAL
Summer
brought a bit of a lull to local racing. July and August each had only one race
date. There was no scheduled race on the July 4th week end. In August the only
local race was held on the 3rd. The AMRCA World Class Nationals were held at
the New York track on August 19th- 23rd, so no race at Whittier Narrows.
Both
races took place in hot humid weather. All the people who were going back to
the Nats. took advantage of the conditions to tune for what I'm sure will be
similar weather. Loyd Torey has been very consistent lately and should do well.
Stuart Hamill Has been fast "out of the box" with his new Torey built
FTL 10cc car. Charlie Hamill has done more modifications to his 3.5cc car with
promising results. Look for both of them to do well in New York.
AMRCA
OPEN WHEEL NATIONALS SEPT. 13th & 14th
The
details about the Open Wheel Nats. are as follows. Only the AMRCA open wheel
classes will race. Those are: Class 3,4,5 and Modern Nostalgia 40 & 60.
Practice and Tech. Inspection will be on Saturday the 13th. Track set-up will
begin @ 9:00 am. Practice will start as soon as the track is ready. All cars
racing must be Tech inspected and complete at least one successful practice run
to be eligible for Sundays racing. There will be no practice on Sunday. Sunday
will begin with track set-up at 9:00 am with the first heat races starting once
the track is ready. Each class will run 3 heats. The first heat will run in the
following order: Class 5,3,4, Mod. Nos. 40 and 60. Second heat will reverse
the order, and the last heat will run in the same order as the first. There
will be a break between each heat to prepare your cars for the next round.
Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in each class. The awards will
be handed out after the results are tabulated and the equipment is put away.
