APRIL 18-19, 2009
The second annual Strobelfest
tether car meet was blessed with two sunny days and lots of serious racing. The
Saturday practice session ran all day long with everyone getting in several
test runs in the 190s except of course for Otto and Mr. Picco
who both ran over 203. We even had time to run some open wheel cars and both of
Bob Rowleys nostalgia cars continue to improve.
The Sunday session was 4 rounds of both the
world class and open wheel cars. Despite
some complaints about no Sunday practice just about everyone ran their best
times on the first run right out of the box. Dick Boone was fast at 196 and it was lucky he didn't
practice because he broke a crankshaft on his next run. Loyd
Torrey and Jack Boudakin
were close at about 193. In the 3rd heat Steve Morse ran a 198 with some of the
laps at 200 to take the prize of fastest club member but both Otto and Picco turned over 207 . They were
just fractions apart but Otto was the winner.
Stuart Hamill and Jack
Boudakin had two fast class 3 cars with Stuart
turning the best speed at 172. Jack was close behind at 163. Dave Lundegard gets faster each week with his class 3c car and
turned in 176.
Glen Dye
came down from Utah and ran his 1.5 and 3.5 cars and in the last heat ran 158
with the 3.5
Otto Strobel spent most of his time helping many of the entrants
to improve the performance of their cars.
He is a true gentleman and is always smiling.
Congratulations
to Steve Morse for his efforts in putting together the meet and awarding the
trophies and medals to the contestants.
