August 17th brought out 22 cars to the Eastern Regionals at the Triboro track, this day being quite opposite to the day it was supposed to be held on June 22nd. This day turned out beautiful but everyone wanted to know what happened to our usually good track. It seemed that our last acid treatment made the track so slick, that you had to run "bluppers" to get traction and that is what everyone did, but that didn,t help too much as you can see by the speeds.

Since then, with some back breaking work, we have our good track back again, so we'll see some real speeds again on Sept. 14th.

Our excellent wooden crash wall again saved someone's life, when Hilberg's little converted hot "arrow" was turning up some real speeds and the pan decided it wasn't going to stay together, so it parted with some awful results. The nose took off some 30 feet in the air after the force was spent by bouncing off, first the crash wall and then the concrete wall and landing clear across the track, while the main part stood on the hook and took some gouges out of the crash wall. Thank heaven no one was hurt. Johnny Lutz of Behtlehem, Pa., showed the boys some real speed by placing his modified "arrow" in the custom class and knocking off a cool 138.46 M.P.H. to take third in custom.
