1987 AMRCA NATIONALS

FROM THE PRESIDENT'S WORKBENCH

WOW - what a trip and is it ever tough getting back to the old workbench! First we went to Cuzon Au Mont D'or in Lyon, France, as the guests of the Micox Club. Their facilities are really great and they match this with their wonderful hospitality. There were at least 145 entries with 33 - 10cc cars, two dropped out with blown engines in practice, (Duran's 2 cars). It had to be the highlite of my career to bring the World Record home with Dorothy's car (318.753KPH). After a very tiring trip, we had 2 days to get ready for travel to the A.M.R.C.A. Nats at Anderson. The Nats were fairly well attended with a good showing from New York, California and of course the Mid-Westerners. We had the fastest Nats ever as well as a high degree of competition spirit and at the same time a very high degree of mutual assistance when needed. Without Nicky's help, with his field designed needle valve setter, and Loyd's help using it, my car would never have made 2nd Place. By the way, would anyone like to buy a blue, well worn, but very fast car cheap? Maybe I could sell it in Australia - then we wouldn't see it so often. (Sorry guys Dorothy just read this and said - no deal.) Yes - it did it again with a new USA Record of 196.50 mph. Speaking of records, Sean McDonald broke the A.M.R.C.A. 5cc World Class Record and I understand he has raised it since to 161+ - Good Show! Sean, congratulations. The Phillips were also there with their Ramrunners, next Nat's, A.M.R.C.A. will have a regular class for these cars. I think our hobby needs a car of this type, especially for the youngsters and other beginners. This is a beautiful well designed car, but much simpler to run and less expensive than the typical World Class cars.

I want to thank my race committee and all others that helped to make this years Nat's a great race.

When in France, we extended a formal invitation to FEMA, to attend the 4th World Championships, to be held at Whittier Narrows Park and Recreation Area in 1989. Per their request, the days have now been set for September 25 thru October 1. We are going into high gear planning and accomplishing everything that needs doing before the racing starts in 1989. John and Lucy Beatty, from the California Club - VMRCA, have been appointed Co-Chairmen - (Chairpersons?), of the World Race. This is a huge undertaking from our small group. To be successful, everyone must do what they can - so please give some serious thought as to what you can contribute and keep in touch with John and Lucy. We are a small group but we have fantastic people and we know it can be done.
