1985 AMRCA NATIONALS

FROM THE PRESIDENT'S WORK BENCH:

Another great year and another "Greatest" AMRCA Nationals, and of course our fastest Nationals ever! We should be very happy with the number of cars going over 180 mph, (289.67 Kph). Also we now have 2 members in the ""300 Club", - Loyd Torrey, and now a new member "Old Dad" Roy Torrey. Just missed with this 185+ run - 300 Kpm is 186.416 MPH in "American", better luck next time Roy.

Congratulations to MMRCA - especially Pres. Bob Holliday and Phil McDonald for the great and well prepared Nats. Thanks also to all the Guys and Gals who served on the race committee and helped run the race. Thanks to Phil and Jill for another Hospitality party at their home, the Anderson race just wouldn't be the same without their party.

We really missed seeing all the regulars and hope next year will bring them out again. I was saddened to hear of the death of Bruce Underwood. We shall all miss Bruce and send our sympathies to Edith and his family.

The biggest fun thing at the Nats this year was George and Roger Phillips - "Rumrunner" cars. These cars are really sleek, beautiful and simple to run, for a beginner or anyone else that is looking for something a little more relaxing to run. If the idea of the "Rumrunner" appeals to you, give it a try - it could be a great thing for our hobby.

Dorothy and I enjoyed another 3 weeks vacation beyond the Nationals, touring Canada, Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper and Vancouver, the country is truly awesome. We stopped 1 week in Northern Calif. And I did some fishing for Steelhead and Salmon. It was a marvelous and relaxing vacation. My customers were waiting for my return and I haven't had a free moment since.

Dorothy's and my Manfred cars turned sick after the Nats. We've had 2 VMRCA races since the Nats and both cars were very slow. Nothing seems wrong with the engines or cars - they just don't turn on. Oh Well! - I guess we need a little more homework.

F L A S H! It's good news with the 10cc cable size, we won't need to go to a larger diameter for a while yet.

If any of you have a wish to see Australia, next year and the 3rd World Championships would be a good time to go. Now is the time to start planning. Back to the Work Bench.
