1981 AMRCA Nationals Report

By Roger Phillips

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Anyone who attended this years Nationals knows what happened there, and anyone who did not sure missed one heck of a race. The Nationals was one of the most exciting meets I have ever attended. Ted Dodd's blistering 186.33mph, record setting run sent Phil McDonald airborne with excitement, and left the rest of us with our mouths open. Congratulations Ted, you've certainly shown all of us the capability of 80/20 fuel. Congratulations to my son Kenny for his new Class 11 Arrow record of 151.26mph. We had quite a few entries this year, and I would like to thank Frank Szekula for doing such a fine job of running the race, and all of the other people who cleaned and prepared the track surface. To all the ladies who did the tedious chore of time keeping and recording, a very special "Thank you."

At the General Meeting there were a number of important and controversial subjects discussed. Some of these issues could affect the Class that you compete in, and the way we run the AMRCA. During, and after the meeting there were strong opinions voiced by both sides. These issues will be put to vote by ballot the end of this year. Make certain that you fully understand the pros and cons of the issues, and vote accordingly. Remember, you must vote if you want to have a say in the way things turn out.

The result of the letter that was sent to the Suffolk County Dept. of Parks about a site for an Eastern track turned out negative. The only good part was that they did not waste my time and effort as did Nassau County. There are a number of interesting possibilities being explored, all of which are on privately owned land. I'm getting a lot of help in my search for a site from Mike Lepurage, Nick Tucci II, and Hugh Frankenfield. Thanks Guys!

The season is about over for most of us, and it's back to the workbench for the winter. Now George and I can get started on our fuel injected, turbocharged, DOHC, nitrous oxide burning OPS. Look out Ted!!
